Actor Abhimanyu Singh, best known for his work in films such as Gabbar Singh and L2, feels that aspiring artistes need to work hard on their craft and constantly improve themselves if they want to make a name in the industry. Speaking exclusively to Roktim Rajpal Diaries, The Inspector Avinash 2 star also looks back on his journey and reveals how he dealt with challenges during his initial years.

What made you take up Inspector Avinash 2?

After acting for so many years, I was happy to finally get a role like this in Inspector Avinash. It required a complete transformation in terms of my looks and even the way I speak. I of course, gave it some thought before going through with the project. I am grateful to the audience for the love they gave me.

How did you prepare for the role?

I was totally aloof (to things around me) and cut myself off to prepare for the role.

You worked with Randeep Hooda in Inspector Avinash 2.

It was a nice experience. He is a good actor and has no insecurity.

How did your journey as an actor begin?

See, my parents wanted me to become an IAS officer by preparing for the UPSC exam. I was doing my graduation from St Stephen’s and living in a hostel. People from Bihar were making it into the UPSC and becoming famous.

I, on the other hand, started doing modelling for pocket money. Then theatre happened. That way, life took a turn, and things happened.

What kept you going in the initial years of your career?

It was difficult initially, as is usually the case. My self-confidence kept me going. I was also willing to work on myself.

What is the best advice you have received in your career?

I have received a lot of advice here and there in my career. However, I attach importance to only the one that comes from my wife.

What advice would you like to give to aspiring actors?

I would tell them to work on their accent and themselves. In this field, if you are lucky, you will get a break. At the end of the day, when you are in front of the camera, it is you who has t perform.
