Jana Nayagan breakeven target: How much does Thalapathy Vijay’s film need to earn to emerge as a success?

Jana Nayagan, Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘last film', is set to hit the screens on January 9 and this has created a great deal of buzz among fans. The biggie features the actor in a mass avatar is likely to have political undertones, going by its title.
Jana Nayagan needs to perform well at the box office in the long run in order to emerge as a commercial success. According to Ramesh Bala, trade analyst, the film has to gross nearly Rs 500 crore worldwide to emerge as a profitable venture.
“In terms of gross, it needs to earn Rs 500 crore globally to emerge as a breakeven success. GOAT had done somewhere close to same amount in 2024 So it is doable,” he told Roktim Rajpal Diaries.
GOAT, directed by Venkat Prabhu, hit the screens in 2024 and opened to a thunderous response at the box office. The film reportedly earned Rs 460 crore worldwide against a budget of Rs 400 crore.
This was his first release after Leo. The Lokesh Kanagaraj-directed film released in 2023 and collected nearly Rs 600 crore at the box office. The actioner was set in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, which includes Vikram and Kaithi. Leo was shot on a budget of Rs 400 crore.
Coming back to Jana Nayagan, it is a political action drama that centres on an ordinary man who becomes an inspiration for many when he fights against injustice. The cast is headlined by Vijay, Mamitha Baiju, and Pooja Hegde. Bobby Deol plays the antagonist in Jana Nayagan. Directed by H Vinoth on a budget of Rs 300 crore, the film is inspired by Telugu star Balakrishna’s 2023 hit Bhagavath Kesari. Jana Nayagan is produced by KVN Productions. Anirudh Ravichander serves as the music director.
Jana Nayagan will hit the screens in multiple languages on January. It will clash with Prabhas’ The Raja Saab at the box office. Sudha Kongra’s Parasakthi is slated to release in theatres on January 10, a day after Jana Nayagan.
