Lucknow’s hidden gems: Actor Vivek Prabhakar says ‘I don’t support abusive language in shows’

Vivek Prabhakar is an actor from Lucknow best known for his work in series such as Grahan and Abhay 3, Thukra Ke Mera Pyaar . He has also appeared in films such as 14 Phere and Raid 2 and theatre production. Speaking exclusively to Roktim Rajpal Diaries, Vivek opens up about his career and the importance of OTT platforms.

How did you develop an interest in acting?

As is normally the case, acting ka keeda mujhe bachpan se hi tha.I was a dancer in school. I then participated in a drama when I was in Class 8. Later, I took part in cultural programmes organised by the bank where my father worked.

How did you land your first role?

A web series was being shot in Lucknow.I wanted to be a feature artist on it. Ranjan Chandel, who was looking after the shoot, asked me if I would be able to deliver a dialogue and the rest is history.

How did theatre happen?

I went from acting in films/series to working in theatre and not the other way around. As such, before entering this field, I did a lot of reading and observed trainers in online classes. Then, I rehearsed with director Madhosh Ali and Imran Khan (ACNA). He eventually staged a play and the journey started.

Is the approach to acting in films different from the one followed in theatre?

If you want to pursue a career in films, you will have to forget some things you learn in theatre. The film camera catches things pretty fast. You need to be careful about hand movements and body language.

Has OTT made life easier for actors?

OTT has given actors like me more opportunities to shine. There are also more opportunities for newcomers. There's also less scope for editing in this space.

On that note, is the use of strong language in OTT productions justified?

I don't feel abusive language is justified. In fact, I have rejected some offers as they required me to abuse on screen.

What type of roles do you want to play going forward?

I basically want to do good roles going forward. I am game for Inspector roles, negative parts and even hero ka father type characters.
