Actor Abi Hassan, Nassar’s son, made his debut with the Kamal Haasan-backed Kadaram Kondan (2019) and impressed fans with his performance. He then garnered attention with Sila Nerangalil Sila Manidhargal (2022) and Mission (2024). Despite this, Abi hasn’t been seen on screen since the release of AL Vijay’s film.
Speaking exclusively to Roktim Rajpal Diaries, the emerging star reveals the reason he hasn’t been seen on screen. Abi also opens about his admiration for Nassar and Kamal Haasan.
You haven’t done too many films since 2024. Any reason?
There is no specific reason. I haven't come across the right script so far. Moreover, not too many production houses are willing to back films with newcomers or debutant directors.
How difficult is the wait for the ‘right’ role?
It is hard but one needs to be patient. It plays a big role here. I believe that things will fall into place once the time is right.
What is your father’s reaction to this gap?
He has been supportive and this means a lot as he has been in the industry for 30 years.
Looking back, was Kadaram Kondan a good debut vehicle?
It was the best debut a newcomer could get. I worked with a big production house and starred with Chiyaan Vikram. So, yeah, it was the best possible launch.
How did you prepare for Kadaram Kondan?
We had a workshop in which I was to rehearse with Akshara Haasan (his co-star) . Kamal sir just walked in and stood next to me.

He then said that he wanted to be part of the workshop. During the rehearsal, it was me and him. It is an experience I will take to the grave.
What do you like the most about Kamal Haasan, the actor?
The thing is that Kamal sir has an enthusiasm to learn even at this stage. This is something I see in my father too. He is keen to learn something everyday.
Which is your favourite Nassar film?
The haircut scene in David is something I hold close to my heart. He has an unique approach to acting. Take any of his roles and you will realise that they are completely different from the other. Each of his roles has a different shade.
Are you worried about being compared to him?
I am proud that he is my father and I know that I always have to give my 100%. That way, I don’t think about this pressure at all.
Do you have any dream roles?
I would love to do any one of Kamal sir’s roles. No one can do it better than him. However, the prospect of being in his shoes excites me. Uttama Villain is my favourite.
